Actress Sydney Sweeney is known for her work on the screen, but she’s also a gearhead, and she’s recently teamed up with Ford to give away a custom Mustang! Designed by Sweeney herself in conjunction with the automaker, the vehicle is modeled after the actress’s dream car and based on her own 1965 Mustang, named Britney.
Sydney Sweeney was born into a family of mechanics in Spokane, Washington and has grown up surrounded by cars, learning to drive in her great-grandfather's Ford F-100. She’s always been an automotive enthusiast, and during the Covid-19 lockdowns she even restored a 1969 Ford Bronco and documented the process on Tiktok for her audience.
“It’s heartening to see Ford celebrate individuals who are pushing past stereotypes to do what they love,” Sweeney said. “That’s why I was so excited to work with Ford on designing my dream car, and I can’t wait to surprise someone special with a matching vehicle.”
This contest, the entries for which have now concluded, was created to encourage people to follow their passions in spite of stereotypes or other people’s judgements. Sweeney, who has collaborated with Ford before on two exclusive workwear collections for Ford x Sydney Sweeney as well as an online lookbook, is also working on a social series called Auto 101, teaching viewers how to perform basic car maintenance tasks such as checking tire pressure and jumping a dead battery. The goal of the series is to encourage women to get comfortable working on their cars, in spite of the task being typically associated with men.
The custom Mustang that has been designed for this content is a distinctive robins-egg-blue color. Combining vintage and modern style, the vehicle features unique textures, embellishments, and even Sweeney's signature inscribed on it. Two versions of the car are being made– one for Sydney Sweeney and one for the contest winner.
"Like me, Sydney is a Mustang girl. Each generation has its own distinct personality, but at their core, they embody a spirit of disruption, edge, and undeniable allure,” said Laurie Transou, Ford Mustang chief engineer. “Sydney's interpretation of the Mustang captures this essence perfectly, reflecting the expressive and individualistic nature of those who are drawn to this iconic vehicle."
Although the entry window for this contest has drawn to a close, there’s still plenty to love about the Ford Mustang, especially now in the year of the car’s 60th anniversary!
