An all-new Mustang is headed to the forefront of the performance car market: The all-new Ford Mustang Mach 1. This groundbreaking ride is set to become the most track-capable Mustang ever built.

Now, thanks to an all-new handling package, the Mach 1 just got even better. The crown jewel of this new package lies with its wheels, which have been carefully designed for never-before-seen performance.

Made From Cast Aluminum

The wheels of the all-new Ford Mustang Mach 1 are made from cast aluminum. This gives them a modern, track-focused appearance and the strength and durability to lay down rubber all day long.

Mark Kaski, an industry veteran who has been a leading Ford designer for a decade, was responsible for the choices in the Mach 1’s wheel appearance, integrity, material, and design.

“It’s the result of a whole lot of engineering, a lot of design, and a little artistic talent,” Kaski said. “And there was probably some magic involved.”

Layered Construction For Three-Dimensional Appearance

The Mach 1’s wheel design has been carefully crafted to give of an aggressive and luxurious three-dimensional appearance to anyone lucky enough to spot it on the road or track.

“There aren’t many in the industry doing layering like this on a production wheel,” Kaski said.

One Inch Wider, Two Pounds Lighter

Exclusive to the Mustang Mach 1’s handling package, these specific wheels have achieved an unbelievable engineering feat; they are two pounds lighter than the Mach 1’s stock wheels, yet one inch wider, allowing for more grip and better handling at top speeds.

When out on the track, the reduced weight and added grip can make all the difference in any attempt to achieve record-breaking lap times.

“Bird’s Nest” Design Inspired by Bridge Truss Construction

The Mach 1’s handling package features a wheel design that is characterized by long, straight lines behind shorter, angled lines. This gives of a similar aesthetic to that of a bird’s nest or bridge truss, tightly woven for maximum stability and flexibility.

Kaski’s “bird’s nest” design is entirely unique to this package, even among the collection of designs that populate his Mustang portfolio.

“In some ways, I see the wheels as jewelry for the vehicle,” he said. “The design is different than anything we’ve ever done, but I think it’s perfect for this new Mach 1.”

Overall Y-Spoke Design Influenced by Ford ST and Mach-E GT Prototype Wheels

Enhanced wheel design has become an ever-increasing modus operandi for Ford as of late, and this is evidenced by the striking wheel designs of both the all-new Ford ST trims and Mustang Mach-E.

For the Mustang Mach 1’s handling package, this design has been perfected to a level that has never been seen before.

According to Kaski,  the new wheel design of the Ford Mustang Mach 1’s handling package is “going to influence Mustang wheel design going forward.”
