Ford has long been known for its dedication to providing high-quality, reliable vehicles for law enforcement, fire departments, and government agencies. Now, as the company celebrates 75 years of service to these critical organizations, it is proudly introducing the all-new 2025 Ford Expedition® Special Service Vehicle (SSV). With order banks officially open, the Expedition SSV is poised to deliver the rugged versatility, cutting-edge technology, and robust capability that public service professionals need, helping them perform their vital roles more effectively than ever.
The 2025 Expedition SSV builds on the legacy of its predecessors, offering unparalleled versatility and a design built specifically for the demands of law enforcement and other emergency services. This second-generation model is available in two configurations: a two-row setup with vinyl floors and cloth seating for practical durability, and a three-row configuration in the Expedition Max SSV, which features 60/40 PowerFold® and Power Recline to accommodate larger teams and equipment. Whether it's carrying personnel or hauling gear, the Expedition SSV is designed to meet the ever-changing needs of public service agencies.
A standout feature of the new Expedition SSV is the innovative Ford Split Gate. This class-exclusive feature allows officers to quickly access the cargo area by lifting three-quarters of the liftgate or folding down the lower tailgate, which doubles as a stable platform that can support up to 500 pounds. This is ideal for organizing and accessing equipment at a moment's notice, ensuring first responders can focus on their duties without unnecessary delays.
In law enforcement, situational awareness is critical. The 2025 Expedition SSV addresses this need with a standard 24-inch panoramic display that replaces the traditional gauge cluster, placing vital information directly at eye level for easy access while on the move. The vehicle also includes Dark Car technology, which shuts off all interior lighting to help officers remain discreet during stakeouts or surveillance.
Another key feature is the Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO), which helps prevent unauthorized access to cargo, ensuring that sensitive equipment stays secure. Connectivity features like these are essential for police departments that require real-time data and seamless integration with their technology.
The 2025 Expedition SSV is equipped with a powerful 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine, delivering 400 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque. This power is supported by a 4x4 driveline with a new two-speed transfer case, Touch on Demand, and 4-Auto, making it ready for any terrain. The Expedition SSV is built to tow heavy loads, with a maximum towing capacity of 9,600 pounds and includes Pro Trailer Hitch Assist™ and Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ for easy trailer handling.
Ford's commitment to safety is also evident in this vehicle, with advanced features like BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert and BLIS® with Trailer Coverage, which help officers stay aware of their surroundings and operate their vehicles with confidence, even in high-stress situations.
Ford's dedication to law enforcement dates back to 1950 when the company first introduced the Police Package for the Ford Custom. Since then, Ford has continually innovated, developing iconic models like the Ford Crown Victoria, the Mustang Patrol, and the Police Interceptor Utility Hybrid AWD. Ford has also been at the forefront of safety advancements, such as implementing 75 mph rear crash crumple zones and developing ballistic door panels.
The Ford Police Interceptor Utility, F-150 Police Responder®, and even the electric F-150 Lightning Pro SSV have all contributed to the brand’s reputation for producing high-performance, reliable police vehicles. The 2025 Expedition SSV builds on this legacy, further cementing Ford’s position as the leader in police vehicle development.
"We are committed to designing products that are durable, safe, and purpose-built for law enforcement," said Lindsey Bertino, police brand marketing manager. "For 75 years, we've worked hand-in-hand with officers to ensure our vehicles meet the highest standards, and we're excited to continue serving them with vehicles like the 2025 Expedition SSV."
Ford’s 75 years of service to law enforcement is a point of immense pride for the company, and it’s a testament to the dedication and trust that officers place in Ford vehicles. All Ford police vehicles in the U.S. are assembled in the country, with the 2025 Ford Expedition SSV being produced at Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant. As the order banks open for this new model, law enforcement agencies across the nation can count on the same Ford toughness and reliability that has been their cornerstone for decades.
