Ford and Lincoln saw significant gains in the 2025 J.D. Power U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, showcasing impressive progress. Lincoln climbed six positions to 19th place, while Ford improved by 10 spots, rising to 13th.

The J.D. Power U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study gathers feedback from original owners of 2022 model year vehicles, assessing long-term durability and dependability after three years of ownership. The study evaluates aspects like reliability, features, and performance. This year's improvement highlights Ford and Lincoln's commitment to enhancing customer satisfaction and vehicle quality.

“We're encouraged by the progress we're making to improve quality while staying focused on tougher testing and rigorous monitoring of new vehicles to make sure they are as good as they can be when they leave the factory," said Josh Halliburton, Ford's executive director of quality. "We believe these actions will result in better long-term ownership experiences for our customers, like we saw in this year’s Vehicle Dependability Study.”

Ford's ranking improvement reflects its ongoing efforts to boost vehicle dependability, a critical factor for buyers considering long-term ownership. The company has placed a strong focus on stringent testing and better production monitoring to ensure new cars meet the highest reliability standards.

Building on Ford's strong performance in the 2024 J.D. Power U.S. Initial Quality Study, where the Bronco Sport ranked first in initial quality among small SUVs, these recent results are part of a broader trend. The company’s focus on improving not only the immediate quality of its vehicles but also their long-term dependability signals a shift toward creating cars that remain reliable over time.

Lincoln's rise to 19th place is also a sign of improved reliability and quality. This shift is especially significant for a luxury brand, where customers expect longevity and performance from their investments.

Overall, this year’s scores reflect substantial progress in consumer satisfaction for both brands. They demonstrate that Ford and Lincoln are making strides in both initial quality and long-term dependability, positioning themselves as leaders in the quest to provide the best driving experience.

Looking ahead, Ford and Lincoln are poised to strengthen their standings in future studies with ongoing improvements in quality and dependability, showcasing their dedication to meeting the evolving needs of today’s car buyers.
