The Ford Maverick Lobo brings back the spirit of the street truck era, harkening back to the mid-1980s through the early 2000s. With many Maverick enthusiasts already customizing their trucks for enhanced performance, the Maverick Lobo offers a fresh foundation for those looking to create modern street trucks.

The Maverick Lobo is the street-performance variant of the Maverick lineup, complementing the off-road capabilities of the Maverick Tremor and the efficiency of the Maverick Hybrid. This new model expands the Maverick’s appeal, offering a versatile and value-packed option for even more drivers.

The idea for the Maverick Lobo originated with Ford designer Josh Blundo, who, upon joining the company in 2019, saw the potential in a clay model of the Maverick. Imagining it as his own, Blundo envisioned a widebody design with wings, a front splitter, and custom wheels.

This concept inspired a special build by Tucci Hot Rods that gained significant attention at the 2021 Special Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) trade show. Encouraged by the positive response, Blundo and his team moved forward with the design of the Lobo.

At the same time, engineers like Keith Daugherty began refining the truck’s suspension, springs, and other components, utilizing parts from other Ford performance vehicles to ensure the Maverick Lobo would deliver an authentic on-road driving experience.

The result of these efforts is the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo, a truck built for on-road performance. It features a lowered stance, with the front sitting a half-inch lower and the rear 1.12 inches lower than the standard Maverick. The roof height is also reduced by 0.8 inches. The Lobo is powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, rigorously tested to meet Ford’s Built Ford Tough standards and backed by a factory warranty.

The Maverick Lobo’s steering has been tuned for performance, providing a driving experience akin to that of a performance car. The truck is equipped with a twin-clutch rear drive unit borrowed from the Bronco Sport, as well as enhanced brakes with dual-piston front calipers from the European Focus ST.

Inspired by autocross and drifting, the Maverick Lobo introduces a new drive mode designed to enhance cornering, grip, and stability, reducing understeer. Known as Lobo mode, this feature is intended for use on closed courses, as it activates the truck’s torque vectoring system and reduces the stability control system’s effectiveness. Think of it as the Maverick’s equivalent of the Mustang’s track mode.

To ensure the Lobo is ready for intense performance driving, Ford upgraded its cooling system, incorporating a larger radiator and fan from the Maverick's 4K towing package, along with a transmission oil cooler.

The Maverick Lobo retains the Maverick’s core design but adds unique touches that set it apart. A distinctive front fascia, painted rear bumper, and rocker moldings provide a fresh look, contrasted by a black-painted roof and 19-inch black wheels.

Inside, the design draws inspiration from street art and current streetwear trends, as seen in the Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accent stitching and the graffiti-inspired overprint on the seats. The Lobo name is also embossed into the black seats, a nod to street culture.

Ford offers the Maverick Lobo in two configurations: standard and high. The standard configuration includes all the essential performance features, while the high configuration adds luxury elements such as a heated steering wheel and seats, Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 driver-assist technologies, a 360-degree camera, spray-in bedliner, a moonroof, and advanced towing aids like Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist, available from early 2025.

The high configuration of the Maverick Lobo introduces advanced technologies to enhance both convenience and performance. Pro Trailer Hitch Assist simplifies the process of hitching a trailer, using the rear camera and corner radars to align the hitch with the trailer coupler. The system also controls the truck’s speed, steering, and braking to ensure a perfect stop.

Once the trailer is hitched, Pro Trailer Backup Assist makes reversing with a trailer as simple as turning a knob to direct the trailer's path.

Orders for the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo began on August 1, with deliveries expected in early 2025. High configuration models will be available later in the year, offering customers a new way to experience the street truck legacy with modern performance and technology.
